A Session That Means More

There are some family sessions that feel less like work and more like a privilege — and this was one of them. This was a photoshoot for my step-dad’s sister and her family, and documenting this group is always special.

She has four amazing kids, one of whom passed away years ago. And every time we take group photos, I edit him into a few of the images. It’s a small thing that means everything — because family photos aren’t just about who is able to physically be there… they’re about who still has a place in the family.
And while we include him reverently, we also have our classic tradition: editing her brother into at least one totally random photo. Every year. Every shoot. 😂It’s become one of our favorite inside jokes.
A Family Full of Personality
This family has one of my favorite energies to photograph: loud, goofy, and never trying to be too perfect. The kids crack jokes, people tease each other, and there’s always a moment where someone bursts into laughter.
And this year we had someone new to photograph — her only granddaughter. 💛Watching her with her aunts and uncles was the sweetest part of the session. She absolutely adores them, and they return that energy tenfold. The generations came together so naturally on camera — a reminder of how important it is to capture everyone in every season.
Why These Photos Matter

I’ve learned as a photographer that the most meaningful images aren’t always the perfectly posed ones. It’s the ones that tell the full story. This session is a beautiful example of that:
✨ The child who is still part of the family
✨ The inside jokes✨ The new generation growing up
✨ The reminders that memories don’t disappear
Editing someone into a photo isn’t about Photoshop—it’s about honoring the space they still hold.
The Best Part of This Job
Every time I photograph this family, I’m reminded why pictures matter. They’re not just pictures. They’re a record of:
Who we love
Who shaped us
Who we miss
And who we want to remember
Even though life changes, these photos keep us connected.
