A Heartfelt Engagement Session for two wonderful people

Kayla and Steven are absolutely perfect for each other! Both people are genuinely funny people and give their whole heart for things that they love. Both of these lovebirds had faced a bumpy road in prior relationships in order to get here, but they managed to find each other and set a great example of a healthy relationship for their loved ones.
Setting the Scene
Both Steven and Kayla are pretty easy going people. Neither is super frivolous, and both are fairly content without extravagance. So the Wellsville mountain range was absolutely perfect as the backdrop for their engagement session. It maintains the theme of simple beauty that is the foundation for their relationship.

This location also happens to frequently have wind. This can help photos by adding movement to baggy clothes or hair without making something seem over the top or forced. Being an open field next to a mountain means that you get a whole bunch of sunlight until you suddenly have no sunlight. This can present unique challenges and a very specific vibe for photographs. Luckily these two were more than okay with playing in the harsh light for their session to mix up the feeling of the photos.
Capturing the Moments
Since both of these two are so easy going the planning process leading up to the shoot has been an absolute breeze. I was able to suggest a few locations that fit their style and they were able to choose one out of the options that felt like them. Kayla also loves to hike, so somewhere outdoors was just natural for her.

A issue we needed to address while looking at locations was mobility. Steven has a fair share of metal in his foot and can't walk super far without it swelling and getting painful. So we focused on locations where we had a variety of views within a small area so we wouldn't be putting him in any pain.
As I mentioned previously, both of these two are totally goofballs, especially Steven. So the whole session was joke after joke after joke. My job was made extremely easy with capturing genuine smiles for the two due to this. So many of their photos have genuine laughs in them.
Luckily, because both of them are goofballs, there was a point in the session where Kayla had tripped and slid down a small bank and it was caught on camera. They requested to keep those photos in the final gallery so they had something to laugh at later down the road. There are also plenty of goofy photos with a sneaky little grab here and there!

Conclusion
Memories are so important to capture. You may remember something in your mind for years and years, but there is nothing quite like looking back on a picture or video years down the line and seeing faces as they were back then, or faces that may not be around anymore. I always encourage everyone I'm around to take more photos and videos of everyday life, even if it's just on an old camera, or even a phone. You'll never know what you will appreciate looking back on later in life.
At the end of the day I am so happy to see that these two were able to come out of previous relationships that did not work out and create something beautiful. I'm so excited to be a part of their day and watch their love grow.
