Trash the Dress in Logan Canyon | A Healing Photoshoot with My Best Friend 🔥🤍

Flames engulf fabric, casting a warm glow. The fire's bright orange contrasts with the dark background, creating an intense atmosphere.

There are photoshoots that are beautiful.

There are photoshoots that are creative.

And then there are photoshoots that are deeply personal.

This was one of those.

This wasn’t about a wedding.

This wasn’t about a dress.

This was about closure, healing, and coming back to yourself.

My best friend, Tylee, asked me to photograph a trash the dress session in Logan Canyon after her divorce was finalized. And the meaning behind it went so much deeper than just lighting a match.

What Is a “Trash the Dress” Session? 👗

Traditionally, a trash the dress session is done after a wedding — brides wear their wedding gown again and photograph it in water, dirt, paint, or dramatic environments for artistic effect.

But this session?

This was symbolic.

This was release.

This was reclaiming her story.

This was saying, “I am not who I was then, and that’s okay.”

And Logan Canyon gave us the perfect quiet, safe space to do it.

Why Logan Canyon Was the Perfect Location 🌲

We drove up Logan Canyon and found a secluded, safe area where we could do this responsibly. Surrounded by trees, mountains, and the kind of stillness you only get in the canyon, it felt like nature was holding space for her.

The light filtered through the leaves.

The air was cool.

It felt calm in a way that matched the moment.

There was no audience. No pressure. Just two best friends and a chapter closing.

A Ritual From Our Past 🔥

A woman in a lacy top stands in the dark, her white skirt on fire. She holds a lighter, looking solemn. Flames illuminate her face.

Here’s the part that made this session hit even deeper.

When we were younger, after bad breakups, we had a tradition:

We would burn something that reminded us of the relationship.

Letters. Photos. Little keepsakes.

It was our way of saying, “We’re done carrying this.”

So standing there years later, with her wedding dress, doing the same thing? It felt like we had come full circle. Back to our roots. Back to ourselves.

Only this time, we had cameras, intention, and healing behind it.

This Session Wasn’t About Anger

It wasn’t dramatic.

It wasn’t chaotic.

It wasn’t fueled by rage.

It was quiet. Thoughtful. Emotional in a gentle way.

Tylee smiled. She laughed. She cried a little. And mostly, she just looked free.

And that’s what I captured.

Why Photos Like This Matter 🤍

Photography isn’t just for weddings and happy milestones.

It’s also for:

  • Endings

  • Growth

  • Healing

  • Becoming someone new

This session was a reminder that photos can document turning points, not just highlights.

Moments where you decide to move forward.

Moments where you let go.

Moments where you reclaim your own story.

More Than a Photoshoot

I wasn’t there for her wedding.

But I was there for this.

And honestly? This felt more important.

Because this wasn’t about who she was marrying.

This was about who she is now.

Strong. Independent. Whole.

And Logan Canyon quietly witnessed it all. 🌲🔥

Thinking Outside the Box for Your Own Session

You don’t need a traditional reason to book a session.

You can book a session to celebrate:

  • A new chapter

  • A big life change

  • Personal growth

  • Closure

  • Freedom

Your story deserves to be documented, even the parts that don’t fit into a highlight reel.

Especially those parts.

Final Thoughts

This wasn’t just a trash the dress session.

This was two best friends, honoring an old tradition, in a new season of life.

And it was one of the most meaningful shoots I’ve ever photographed. 🤍🔥

If you’re walking through a season of change and want to document it in a way that feels intentional, personal, and healing — I would be honored to help you tell that story.
