Showcasing Local Talent: Whitney Martinez

A Local Fashion Designer in Salt Lake City, Utah

Whitney Martinez is a fashion designer local to Utah, who I've had the pleasure of working with for a couple of different shoots.

Working with local talent for photoshoots helps to build your community, as well as show off some amazing people in your close vicinity. You often build relationships with local vendors, which can lead the way to better personal experiences and achievements.

Whitney's Background

I was able to get Whitney's take on her background, so rather than play telephone, here's something from her:

"My name is Whitney Martinez, and I am a fashion designer. I began this journey when I was a child. I found fashion intriguing and creative, and decided then, that this is what I wanted to do. I would say that fashion has had the big impact in my life and has helped find my personal aesthetic. The clothes that I design are to embrace beauty, curves, and individual features that makes a person feel confident, beautiful, and sexy. It’s designed for women who love to dress up for events, such as parties, special occasions, or to just look their best. Each piece I have to offer is unique, detailed in workmanship, and leaves a signature statement for my audience and I, which is the goal intended. These one of a kind pieces each have a timeless touch and leave an unforgettable look."

The Benefits of Collaboration

Collaborating with vendors in any way can open so many doors for opportunities. This can be in a way that allows you to create unique photos that are special to one person, or it can open opportunities to work with other vendors that you may dream about working with.

Working with vendors specifically local to you can create a strong network. This can also happen with vendors who are not local, but having a network close to you will help connect to other professionals in your area. Having a network that supports you and encourages you will help you grow in a multitude of ways.

Vendors are often professionals in their field. A makeup artist will be able to see someone and a concept and make a beautiful makeup look that suits the person best, while also making sure the concept is captured. A fashion designer will be able to look at a piece of clothing and someone's body and will be able to tell you how best something would lay on a person. A photographer can look at a location and will be able to tell you where the best spot is to get great lighting and to capture the image in your mind. All of these examples and more can create a more tailored service for an individual by each person paying attention to the detail that they really strive in.

Showcasing Successful Projects

I've had the opportunity to work with Whitney's designs on two occasions. Once was during a trip to Oregon with Salt Lake city Inspired. The model wearing her design was Marin and she had some super gorgeous long leg, high waisted pants that she paired perfectly with a brown top and hat to give off a 70s pilot vibe. Watching Marin work her magic with posing, you could tell that these were not pants that would cut you in half when you sat down or bent over, which is a huge bonus for my ladies!

The second time was just recently at another shoot for Salt Lake City Inspired. This time the theme was Shipping Containers. The model this time around was Ana Victoria wearing a denim set made by Whitney. This one has adorable white lace detailing and a corset pattern to it. It worked perfect against a variety of shipping container backgrounds and stood out in a great way!

Supporting Local Businesses

It is so important to support local businesses. This will help to stimulate your local economy as well as support local artists. While it is very possible that these goods will cost more than something you would get on Amazon, it is also true that they are likely made with a much higher quality.

Often for local artists and vendors, what they are supplying is locally sourced as well. This not only stimulates their business, but all the ones that they purchase goods from as well. A few vendors will even upcycle items, which means that there is less waste being thrown in landfills!
