🤍 Supporting Local, Even When Plans Change

One of my favorite parts of being a photographer in Logan, Utah is collaborating with other small businesses who genuinely care about creativity and community.

When Merm Haircare first reached out to collaborate during the SLCI Siren Meetup, it felt like the perfect alignment. Mermaid-inspired haircare meeting a siren-themed creative event? It couldn’t have been more fitting.

Originally, the plan was to capture their products during the Siren Meetup hosted by Salt Lake City Inspired (SLCI). But Utah had other plans.

The weather rolled in hard.

Wind.

Cold.

Chaos.

We had to end the meetup early — and while we still created magic, it wasn’t enough to fully highlight Merm Haircare the way we had envisioned.

So instead of letting the idea fade, we rescheduled.

And honestly? I’m so glad we did.

🌊 Bringing the Mermaid Vision to Life in Studio

Rather than chasing unpredictable outdoor weather again, we decided to create a controlled, intentional mermaid-inspired studio session.

This gave us space to:

  • Focus on the texture and movement of the hair

  • Highlight the shine and health Merm Haircare is known for

  • Lean into dramatic lighting

  • Create a fully immersive mermaid aesthetic

The studio setting allowed every detail — from waves to product placement — to feel elevated and editorial.

It became less about salvaging a collaboration and more about intentionally building something beautiful from scratch.

✨ Why This Collaboration Meant So Much

Merm Haircare is a small, locally owned business based right here in Logan, Utah. Supporting local brands — especially women-owned creative businesses — is something I deeply value.

There’s something special about:

  • Brainstorming ideas face-to-face

  • Problem-solving together

  • Watching someone’s brand come to life through imagery

This wasn’t just a styled shoot.

It was community.

As a Logan Utah photographer, collaborations like this remind me why I love working locally — even while traveling for sessions across Utah and beyond.

🧜‍♀️ The Power of Creative Pivots

The original Siren Meetup may have ended early, but the pivot created something even more refined.

Sometimes weather cancels plans.

Sometimes things don’t unfold the way we expect.

But creativity thrives in adaptability.

The studio mermaid shoot allowed us to slow down, refine the vision, and give Merm Haircare imagery that truly reflects their brand identity — bold, feminine, textured, and effortlessly coastal (even in northern Utah).
