🖤A Love Letter to My Canon R6 and Canon 85mm f/2 Macro

Some photographers have a favorite location. Others have a favorite light.

I have a favorite duo — my Canon R6 and Canon 85mm f/2 Macro lens.

It’s the pair that’s been with me through golden-hour laughter, emotional vows, and quiet, unguarded moments that tell stories words never could.

The R6 was the first camera that truly felt like an extension of how I see. Its autofocus is intuitive, almost like it’s reading my mind. It locks onto a fleeting expression, a subtle shift in body language, or a spark in the eyes before I even fully register it. It’s fast, responsive, and — maybe most importantly — reliable.

And then there’s the 85mm macro. Oh, the 85mm. It’s creamy, sharp, and soulful all at once. I reach for it when I want intimacy in an image — that sense of closeness without intrusion. The compression flatters faces beautifully, and the f/2 aperture lets in just enough light to create depth and softness without losing detail.

But what really makes me love it is its versatility. It’s just as comfortable capturing the delicate weave of a wedding dress or the curve of a flower petal as it is photographing the connection between two people. It balances technical precision with artistic expression — and that’s the space I love to create in.

Two people in elegant gowns hold hands on a snowy landscape with a mountain backdrop. Bright, clear day with joyful mood.

Over the years, this combination has become my creative constant. I’ve shot in harsh desert sun, in cozy studios, and under rainy skies, and the R6 + 85mm always delivers — warm tones, tactile textures, and emotion that feels alive.

When people ask me why I shoot Canon, my answer is simple: because it feels human. It doesn’t get in the way of the story — it helps me tell it.

So here’s to my favorite duo. To the gear that has seen laughter and tears, to the camera that’s held steady through every new creative chapter, and to the lens that makes the world look just a little more poetic.
