🌧️ Rain, Blowouts & Real Life — The Cafferty Family Session in Logan Canyon

When Everything Goes “Wrong”… and Still Feels Right 🤍

Child happily running in rain, smiling, on a dirt path with a sibling holding a black umbrella behind. Autumnal trees and yellow grass.

Family sessions rarely go exactly as planned—and honestly? That’s part of the magic.

I met up with the Cafferty family — Liz, Dylan, Ollie, Chip, and baby Isla — in Logan Canyon on a day that looked perfect. Clear blue skies, fresh mountain air, and that calm feeling that makes you think, oh yeah, this is going to be easy.

Narrator voice: it was not. 😅

Family walks in the rain, man holding baby. Two umbrellas shelter them on a path with autumn trees and golden grass. Cozy and joyful mood.

A Blowout, Then a Downpour

As we started walking toward our spot, their newest addition, Isla, decided it was the perfect moment for a full-on baby blowout. If you’ve had kids (or photographed families long enough), you know exactly how this goes.

While we were mid clean-up, the skies shifted—and suddenly, it was dumping rain.

Cue:

• scrambling

• laughing

• mild chaos

• and a very quick pivot to “let’s just try”

Rushing the Session, Keeping the Memories

Two smiling children under a large umbrella in a grayscale outdoor setting. One holds the umbrella, both wearing sweaters on a path.

We didn’t have much time, but we made it work. We moved fast, embraced the rain, and focused on what mattered: connection over perfection.

And honestly? We still captured some incredibly sweet moments:

🤍 Kids huddled close

🤍 Parents laughing through it

🤍 That cozy, we’re-in-this-together energy

Even soaked, the love showed through.

We decided pretty quickly that we’d plan a second session on a day that didn’t involve emergency wardrobe changes and rainstorms—but I’m so glad we didn’t call it a total loss.

Because real life happened… and that deserves to be documented too.
