💭 A Letter to My Younger Photographer Self

Dear younger me, 📸

I know you’re holding that camera a little too tight right now. You’re worried about settings, angles, and whether anyone will ever take you seriously. You’re wondering if you’re “good enough” to call yourself a photographer yet.

Let me tell you something you don’t know yet — you’re already on the right path.

🌱 You’re Allowed to Start Messy

You’re going to take photos you love… and a lot that you don’t.

That’s not failure — that’s learning.

Every blurry image, every awkward pose, every session where things don’t go as planned is shaping your eye. You don’t need perfection to begin. You just need curiosity and the courage to keep clicking the shutter.

📷 That First Camera Matters More Than You Think

That Canon T3 you’re holding?

It’s going to open doors you can’t even imagine yet.

You’ll upgrade bodies. You’ll chase better lenses. But you’ll never forget the feeling of learning how light works for the first time. Remember this season — it’s where the love for photography really begins.

🤍 Not Everyone Will Understand Your Vision — And

That’s Okay

Some people won’t get why you’re so obsessed with golden hour.

Others won’t understand why you care so much about emotion over perfection.

That’s okay.

The right people — clients, collaborators, friends — will feel something when they see your work. Those are the people you’re creating for.

🫶 Lean on the People Who Believe in You

You’re not doing this alone, even when it feels like it.

There will be:

  • A mom who tells everyone about your work

  • A partner who supports you through long shoots and longer edits

  • Friends who lift you up when confidence dips

Let them. You don’t have to carry everything by yourself.

✨ Your Style Will Come — Don’t Rush It

You’re going to experiment. A lot.

Different editing styles. Different concepts. Different locations.

That’s not inconsistency — that’s growth.

One day, you’ll look at your work and realize it finally feels like you. And when that moment comes, it will be worth every doubt that came before it.

💡 One Day, This Will Feel Bigger Than You

One day you’ll photograph weddings, families, seniors, creative concepts — moments that mean everything to someone else.

You won’t just be taking photos.

You’ll be preserving memories.

And that responsibility? It will shape you into a better photographer than technical skill ever could.

🤍 Keep Going

On the days when comparison creeps in.

On the days when growth feels slow.

On the days when you wonder if this dream is realistic.

Keep going.

You’re building something beautiful — even when you can’t see it yet.

With love,

Your future self 🤍

🌿 Final Thoughts

If you’re a photographer just starting out and reading this — this letter is for you too.

Your journey doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s. Trust your pace. Trust your vision. And most importantly, keep creating.
