📸 Capturing Wonder: A Childhood Memory That Sparked My Photography Journey

🌟 How It All Started

Long before I ever thought of calling myself a photographer, I was just a kid with messy hair, scraped knees, and a big imagination — and a red Canon point-and-shoot camera that went with me everywhere.

I still remember the way it felt in my hand: lightweight, scratched from dropping it out of a tree, and full of possibility. That camera wasn’t just a gadget — it was a key to a world where everything was worth capturing. And lucky for me, I had the perfect partner-in-crime: my childhood neighbor and best friend.

📸 The Adventures of Two Tiny Photographers

We didn’t need much to entertain ourselves. Armed with curiosity and a sense of humor, we would run around the neighborhood making every moment feel like a scene from a movie.

We had impromptu photoshoots in Walmart, striking poses in the aisles while our parents shopped — half giggling, half serious about the artistic vision we thought we had.

We’d photograph the most random things: broken ashtrays with pretty color patterns, the way light hit the pavement just right, or a collection of gum wrappers we pretended were art.

Looking back, those adventures weren’t just child’s play. They were the earliest signs of what would become a lifelong love for storytelling, light, and details that others might miss.

🎨 A Creative Eye from the Start

At the time, we didn’t realize we were developing an artistic eye. We just knew we felt something when we framed the perfect shot or found a strange detail that made us pause.

That little red Canon was more than just my first camera — it was a mirror, a magnifying glass, and a magic wand. It helped me see the world in layers, textures, and stories. And though my gear has changed since then, the spirit behind the lens hasn’t.

💫 Why This Memory Still Matters

Whenever I feel stuck creatively or overwhelmed in my photography business, I come back to this memory. It reminds me that photography doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be curious. Honest. Playful.

That childhood joy is what I try to bring into every session — whether I’m photographing a family, a couple, or a dreamy elopement in the desert. My goal is to capture moments that feel real and true, just like those blurry, off-center photos we took back then.

I would take my camera every where! This is an anemone in California.
