💍 Bridal & Wedding Photography FAQ | What to Know Before Booking

Planning a wedding comes with a lot of questions — and your photography experience shouldn’t be one of the stressful parts. 🤍After photographing weddings, bridal sessions, families, and creative shoots across Utah and beyond, these are the questions I get asked the most.

Consider this your go-to wedding photography FAQ, answered honestly and clearly.

📸 Do We Need an Engagement Session?

Short answer: yes — if you can.

Engagement sessions help you:

  • Get comfortable in front of the camera

  • Learn how I pose and direct you

  • Build trust before the wedding day

  • Create photos you can use for save-the-dates, websites, and decor

Most couples tell me this is what helped them feel confident on their wedding day.

💍 What’s the Difference Between a Bridal Session and Wedding Day Portraits?

Wedding day portraits are beautiful — but they’re often rushed.

A bride and groom kiss in front of a storefront with a sign reading "OPEN." She wears a flowing gown; greenery and flowers surround them.

Bridal sessions:

  • Happen on a separate day

  • Have no strict timeline

  • Allow for multiple locations

  • Are more relaxed and intentional

This is where you get those frame-worthy, golden-hour images without pressure.

🗓️ When Should We Schedule Our Bridal Session?

The best time is:

  • 4–8 weeks before the wedding, or

  • After the wedding if timing is tight

We’ll plan around:

  • Seasonal weather

  • Location access

  • Dress logistics

  • Sunset timing (always worth it 🌅)

🌄 Can We Choose Multiple Locations?

Absolutely — and I encourage it when possible.

Popular options include:

  • A meaningful starting location (temple, venue, sentimental spot)

  • A scenic location for sunset (mountains, canyon, desert)

Sessions that move locations feel dynamic and tell a fuller story.

🤍 What If We’re Awkward in Front of the Camera?

You’re not alone — and you’re not awkward. 😉

My job is to:

  • Guide you with clear direction

  • Encourage movement over stiff posing

  • Help you feel natural and relaxed

  • Create space for real moments

You don’t need modeling experience — just show up as yourselves.

👨‍👩‍👧 Can Family Be Involved in Bridal Sessions?

Yes — if you want them there.

Some couples bring:

  • Parents or siblings

  • Kids

  • Someone to help carry things or fluff dresses

It can turn the session into a shared memory instead of just a photoshoot.

☀️ What Time of Day Is Best for Photos?

Bride in a shimmering gown holding a bouquet, gazing out a window in a dimly lit hallway. Mood is serene and contemplative.

Lighting matters — a lot.

I almost always recommend:

  • Golden hour (the hour before sunset)

  • Early morning for soft, clean light

  • Avoiding harsh midday sun when possible

Good light = better photos. Always.

🌧️ What Happens If the Weather Is Bad?

Weather happens — especially in Utah. 🌦️

If conditions aren’t safe or flattering:

  • We reschedule

  • Adjust timing

  • Shift locations

  • Embrace moody vibes (sometimes the best images come from this)

Flexibility is key — and I help guide that decision.

👗 What Should We Wear (Besides the Dress)?

For bridal or engagement sessions:

  • Neutrals photograph beautifully

  • Avoid busy patterns

  • Bring comfortable shoes for walking

  • Layers add texture and movement

I’m always happy to help with outfit planning.

📷 Do You Shoot Both Digital & Video?

Yes — depending on the package.

Some sessions include:

  • Photo only

  • Highlight video

  • BTS clips

  • Reels-friendly footage

If video matters to you, we’ll plan for it intentionally.

💌 How Far in Advance Should We Book?

Weddings typically book:

  • 6–12 months in advance

Bridal sessions book:

  • 1–3 months out, depending on season

Popular dates and weekends go fast — especially during peak months.

✨ Final Thoughts

Your wedding photography experience should feel:

  • Calm

  • Intentional

  • Supported

  • Personal

If you still have questions after this — that’s okay. I’m here to help guide you every step of the way.
